Joey Tan is a penultimate student pursuing a degree in Business Management with a major in Finance at the Singapore Management University (SMU). As a firm believer of lifelong learning, Joey actively seeks opportunities for growth and self development. To learn about the finance sector in different settings, she took on a finance internship at a listed MNC and joined Bridges for Enterprise, a social enterprise working with start-ups in developing countries as a Financial Advisory Associate. She also actively engages herself in the school community by joining student clubs such as SMU FinTech (Finance Director) and SMU Ember (Sub-committee member). Prior to this, she had undertaken the role of a Teaching Assistant and embarked on a Business Study Mission to China – Shanghai and Hangzhou.
Joey is inspired to join the Lee Kuan Yew Global Business Plan Competition’s (LKYGBPC) pioneer Student Organising Committee as its Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the competition’s 11th edition due to her interest in the start-up and VC sector. As CFO of LKYGBPC, Joey assumes the responsibility for strategic planning, implementation and running of all finance activities under LKYGBPC.
Sarah is a final year student at Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), pursuing Marketing with a profound Minor in Psychology. Her passion for these disciplines is paired with a strong interest in sustainability and social cohesion, bringing a unique perspective to her role. Sarah's profound appreciation for the intricacies and expansiveness of the marketing world has led her on a journey through its multifaceted avenues. She served as the pioneer EXCO for the SUSS Marketing Interest Group, as the Head of Publicity. Her exploration of the startup landscape brought her to Luwjistik, a Singapore-based SaaS enterprise, as an Employer Branding Intern. Simultaneously, her innate flair for writing found expression as the Content Writing Intern for PRISM+, a well-known local electronics brand. Her curiosity and entrepreneurial spirit spurred her many endeavours, including being an alumnus of the European Innovation Academy 2023, held in Portugal.
As someone with an appetite for personal growth and intellectual challenges, she joined the inaugural Student Executive Committee for LKYGBPC, a decision driven by a steadfast desire to learn and embrace new challenges.
Cheryl is a third year student pursuing Accountancy and Legal Studies at Singapore Management University (SMU) and has already accumulated a wealth of experience in the corporate world. She served as an Administrative & Executive Officer in Singapore’s Ministry of Education’s Headquarters prior to entering SMU. She has also completed a marketing and management internship under a Singapore homegrown beauty startup, Beauty Undercover, and a financial services assurance internship with Ernst & Young.
Cheryl is currently involved in the Innovation and Entrepreneurship scene as a Student Community Manager with The Greenhouse, a co-working space housed in SMU’s very own nexus of innovation. This has inspired her to join the Lee Kuan Yew Global Business Plan Competition’s (LKYGBPC) pioneer Student Organising Committee as its Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) for the competition’s 11th edition. As CMO of LKYGBPC, Cheryl oversees and contributes to the competition’s overall branding and marketing strategy, and hopes to learn more about the global innovation scene.
Xin Jie is a final year student pursuing Business Management at Singapore Management University (SMU). Her journey began with a Diploma in Chinese Media and Communications, igniting her passion for the dynamic world of media. This enthusiasm led her to major in both Marketing and Communications Management in SMU, where she continually explores new avenues within this exciting field. Throughout her time in here, Xin Jie has taken up multiple Marketing positions in school, from being part of the organising committee of orientation camps to events and her CCA. In addition to her academic pursuits, Xin Jie's entrepreneurial spirit shines as she manages a home-based business specializing in handcrafted jewelry. Here, she takes charge of all facets, from crafting pieces to orchestrating marketing efforts and overseeing daily operations.
With a rich bilingual background, Xin Jie has also lent her expertise to the SMU Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, where she has actively participated in translation projects. It was during her time here that she discovered her calling to join the Lee Kuan Yew Global Business Plan Competition's (LKYGBPC) Student Organizing Committee. Serving as the Deputy Chief Marketing Officer within the Communications division of LKYGBPC, Xin Jie plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing the competition's overarching branding and marketing strategies.
Boyi is a third year student pursuing Bachelor of Business Administration, specialising in Finance and Innovation & Entrepreneurship at National University of Singapore (NUS). As someone who is always intrigued by novel ideas, she displays strong interest and curiosity in the start-up ecosystem and venture capital space. She has worked as an investment analyst intern in Eastern Epic Capitals, a Singapore-based venture capital firm, which allowed her to gain real-life experiences interacting with ultra-high-net-worth investors, and closing deals. She is also currently serving as a student analyst in Protégé Ventures as she wants to learn more about the vibrancy of Singapore’s startup scene brought about by local student founders.
As an attempt to broaden her horizon and take a step further to venture into the global start-up ecosystem within the budding entrepreneur scene, she is inspired to join the Lee Kuan Yew Global Business Plan Competition’s (LKYGBPC) pioneer Student Organising Committee as its Chief Outreach Officer (COO) for the competition’s 11th edition. As COO of LKYGBPC, Boyi spearheads and executes all the roadshows in different countries, and hopes to connect with the brightest and most innovative minds out there to shape the future of the world together.
Shawn is a sophomore pursuing a Bachelor of Computing (Computer Science) at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Shawn has various interests and is in the process of finding out where his true passion and purpose lie. He initially wanted to become a teacher and still possesses a passion for teaching, currently serving as a Teaching Assistant for his Computer Science modules. Shawn also loves cybersecurity and it is still one of his dreams to become a top ethical hacker. He undertook various cybersecurity certifications and is engrossed with cybersecurity competitions. To explore the startup landscape, he joined the NUS Entrepreneurship Society as a Sponsorship Executive, and joined Protege Ventures (Asia’s first student run venture capital firm) as an associate this year. Being new to the startup scene, Shawn is in the process of constant learning and is often keen to take on new challenges and opportunities.
Shawn joined the Lee Kuan Yew Global Business Plan Competition as Deputy Chief Outreach Officer because he finds it meaningful to connect with various stakeholders to learn more about the entrepreneurship and venture capital landscape, in the hope of possibly starting his own company in future. Shawn loves to travel, listen to mandopop and anything that is related to food. He dances kpop occasionally as well.
Ryan Lee is a second year student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management at Singapore Management University (SMU) with a keen interest in the start-up and venture capital space. He is currently a Venture Capital Intern at Vertex Holdings and an Analyst at Protege Ventures where he actively sources for start-ups with investment potential. Prior to taking up these roles, he had interned with a China-based start-up, TechNode Global, under Global Innovation Immersion, an overseas summer internship programme managed by the SMU Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
Being an aspiring entrepreneur has led Ryan to join the Lee Kuan Yew Global Business Plan Competition’s (LKYGBPC) pioneer Student Organising Committee as its Deputy Chief Outreach Officer (DCOO) for the competition’s 11th edition. As CSO of LKYGBPC, Ryan oversees the recruitment of quality startups to drive greater Innovation and development in the world. Through his contributions and involvement in the competition, he hopes to forge new connections with others and discover more about start-up scenes across the world.
Zi En is a Penultimate year student pursuing a Bachelor Degree in Business Management at Singapore Management University (SMU). With a passion in the venture capital and start-up space, he is part of Protege Venture where he actively sources for start-ups with investment potential. He previously held a variety of positions at a number of start-ups - Worksider, NicholasTung and GetzCleanz, which influenced him to pursue his current course of endeavours.
Zi En is inspired to join the Lee Kuan Yew Global Business Plan Competition’s (LKYGBPC) pioneer Student Organising Committee as its Deputy Chief Sponsorship Officer (CSO) for the competition’s 11th edition, where he seeks greater exposure to the global innovation scene. As Deputy CSO of LKYGBPC, Zi en assists the CSO to manage and deliver the competition’s sponsorship and collaboration opportunities.
Arick is a budding technologist who believes that entrepreneurship and innovation is one way to effect change, inspired by technology enhancing efficiency, increasing utilisation for under-used assets, and reducing carbon footprint. He is very passionate about bringing concepts into reality which is why he not only launched his own start-ups, but also, during his internship with Grab, has built successful products that created an impact and were well-received in the region. Currently a final year student at the Singapore Management University (SMU), he is pursuing Information Systems with a 1st Major in Smart City Management and Technology and a 2nd Major in Technology for Business Solutions (Digitalisation & Cloud Solutions).

Benedict is a second year student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management at Singapore Management University (SMU). Prior to SMU, he pursued his culinary aspirations by taking on a Diploma in Baking and Culinary Science at Temasek Polytechnic, hoping someday to own a business in the food industry.
Joining the Lee Kuan Yew Global Business Plan Competition (LKYGBPC) did not take much for Benedict to consider as he is a firm believer in innovation, especially in how the late founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, who brought Singapore to the nation it is today, was a pseudo-entrepreneur himself. In line with his other commitments in SMU as the president of The Mentoring Circle, Benedict is passionate about impacting the next generation and enabling them to be even better than the previous generation, a challenge that was given by Mr Lee Kuan Yew in 1996 to the young people back then.
Luke is a second-year student at Singapore Management University (SMU) pursuing a double major in Sociology and Legal Studies. With a wealth of event organization experience, Luke has overseen a wide array of gatherings, from Open Houses to Gala Shows and Overseas Service Projects. His professional journey, which includes roles at Changi Airport, restaurants, and SMU Administration, has equipped him with a versatile leadership style that fosters team synergy.
He currently serves as the Deputy Chief Events Officer for the Lee Kuan Yew Global Business Plan Competition (LKYGBPC) Events Committee. In this capacity, Luke plays a crucial role in planning and executing various events within the LKYGBPC program, including the flagship event, Blaze.
Fawzan Jaufer is a driven and enthusiastic student pursuing Masters in Applied Finance at Singapore Management University (SMU) with a passion for the world of buy-side firms including venture capital. Fawzan has always been fascinated by the idea of investing in companies and helping them grow to reach their full potential. This interest led him to pursue a finance degree, where he has excelled in his studies and taken every opportunity to immerse himself in the field.
Fawzan is inspired to join the Lee Kuan Yew Global Business Plan Competition’s (LKYGBPC) pioneer Student Executive Committee as Deputy Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the competition’s 11th edition due to his interest in the VC sector. As Deputy CFO, Fawzan assists in overseeing the master budget, preparing monthly reports and liaising with other departments on any financial matters.
Yun Waddy Soe started pursuing computing as a student at the National Junior College prior to entering Singapore Management University (SMU). Currently a third year Computer Science student at SMU, her passion for technology in the FinTech space has led her to joining the SMU FinTech Club as a sub-committee member and eventually taking on the role of President.
Yun has always been interested in technology start-ups and the entrepreneurship scene even before enrolling in SMU. This has inspired her to join the Lee Kuan Yew Global Business Plan Competition’s (LKYGBPC) pioneer Student Organising Committee as its Chief HR & Strategy Officer (CHRO) for the competition’s 11th edition. As CHRO of LKYGBPC, Yun oversees and contributes to the competition’s administrative matters and committee members’ welfare. She hopes to learn more about the start-up, innovation and entrepreneurship culture and gain some VC knowledge along the way.
